Overview

Fixing the biggest weakpoint of openGrid: Strength

The original snap design was loose, even though it fits most daily usages, it's still loose. The directional snaps are better, but they can't handle vertical pulling force well, because it's only strengthened in one direction.

The self expand ones are better, but still can get pulled out easily due to the flaw in the directional snap design.

SuperConnect fixes this by thinking out of the box: Why should we design the snap in one piece? Why everyone is using threads? Are they really better?

The answer to both questions is, no, they don't, and they're not better. Multiboard misled people into the "threaded" designs, but the actual strength issue comes from the snap base design, and material strength.

So SuperConnect split the snap into halves, you put them on, insert the lock, rotate 90degs, done, easy and rigid.

Test results(full version):

Test method: pulling perpendicular to the grid, with MultiConnect thread/lock, until the snap pops out/break or the grid breaks

Original directional snap: 5kg, on the reinforced side

Self Expanding snap: 16kg, on the reinforced side only

Self Expanding snap, 7kg, right from the center

SuperConnect: 20kg, on both sides

SuperConnect: 14kg, right from the center

I haven't managed to break the snap on direction parallel to the grid, my hands hurt hard before I can pull it off.

Try yourself by printing the base snap with the included hook. All of the test subjects are printed with the same 4 wall, 100% infill config, with the same material.

Print guide

PETG or other stronger but flexible material, 4 wall loops, 100% infill. For fold parts, please print on smooth sheet, or the tolerance might be too tight.

Use PLA if you want it to be absolutely rigid, but you'll need a hammer to put the snaps on and won't be able to remove them later.

The snap is designed to be strong while saving material, 100% infill won't use more material than other snaps.

Usage guide

The snaps are split in half, which means you'll need to print 2 halves for each snap. The reinforced sides are on the landscape, unlike the original directional design.

Then insert the lock, and rotate 90degs to secure
