Overview

Dive sticks

Designed in a single day, and they work exactly the way I wanted. Instead of buying a set, I made my own, and they stand perfectly upright on the pool floor in still water . The issue of staying down when knocked over into a certain position has been solved (in my testing I didn't see any persistance) with the introduction of the new cap.

1x M5x30mm bolt

6x standard M5 nuts

Assembly

Screw the M5x30 bolt into the base of the body.

Thread all 6 M5 nuts onto the bolt. An 8mm socket fits the nuts perfectly and makes this quick.

Tighten the nut stack down firmly against the base so the ballast sits as low as possible.

Snap the end cap onto the bottom to close it off.

Thread the top cap and assembeled bottom cap onto the body to finish

Optionally you can all glue it together for a stronger and safer final part

Print settings and printability

Printed at 0.2mm layer height in Prusament PETG Mango Yellow and PM Filament PETG Red . Every part prints without supports, but a brim is recomended for the body! Print the body standing upright and print all the caps flat on the bed . Please Don't Print it any Blue Filaments!

Material

I chose PETG for its chemical resistance to handle pool chlorine, though only long term use will tell whether it holds up fully . PETG is the minimum I would use here. ASA would be an even better choice for UV and chemical resistance if you have it. PLA is not suitable.
