Overview
Did you know bats can eat their bodyweight in insects every night? Bats are highly effective nocturnal insect predators, feeding on mosquitoes, moths, beetles, and other flying insects. Providing suitable roosting habitat can help support local bat populations and encourage a healthier backyard ecosystem.
Introducing Batcasa, a natural form of long term pest control for your garden and home. By printing a bat box and hanging it in a quiet out of the way spot on your property you are encouraging bats to use your yard as part of their nightly hunting grounds. This design is inspired by the bats commonly found in the northern USA and Canada with an opening of ¾" providing a comfortable cavity for species commonly found in our region of the world while still offering protection from their predators and the elements.
Features front and size vents and prepositioned screw holes for easy installation.
This design uses approximately 400g of filament (dependent on print settings) and can be printed in a single piece on any printer with a 250mm+ sized print bed.

For optimal printing use supports for the screw tabs on the sides and orient the model so the roof is flat on the build plate. Since this is a long print consider using a brim or mouse ears to minimize warping. Outdoor rated materials such as PETG or ASA are highly recommended to ensure longevity of this product and minimize any disturbance to the inhabitants of the bat box over time. Do not use black filament as this will be too warm for the bats.
For installation and placement please consider a location in your yard that is south or south east facing to maximize daily sunlight as bats enjoy the warmth. The location should be at least 6 feet from the ground and somewhere free of human disturbance or noise like that of an AC unit or frequest traffic. While it may be tempting to install this on the side of your home it is not ideal as bat waste does create quite a mess that does attract pests and parasites. Instead consider a shed, tree or even a free standing pole.
