Note: re 3D printing using Vase/Spirialize mode *Since there can be a lot of complex curves and angles, large overhangs and low slopes can cause gaps in your prints.Ensure you are using a large enough nozzle and are printing with a large line widths and/or small enough layers.* Updates *2026-08-08* I thought it would be interesting to try something a little different than the standard smooth style vase so I added some features to allow the user to choose some regular polygons as the base structure. I am hoping that I didn't break anything in the process. I have also tried to clean up the menu a little and make it a little more intuitive. The problem with this model is that it is getting pretty complicated so there are a lot of options that can be applied. Many of the controls interact differently depending on what other options you have selected. I thought that for larger height vases 10 control points to define the profile might not be enough so I added some more to give you a little control over the profile design. Note: If you want a single twist for the whole vase the easiest way to get it is to set the Twist Transition point to 1 (very top) and then use the Lower Twist to set the rotation and direction. Please let me know if you find any errors caused by my changes. I have added some new images to show some of the possibilities. *2026-08-07* I have added a new twist to the design. You can now do a double twist so the top and bottom flutes are twisted separately. If you want a different direction use a negative angle. Set the transition using 0 to 1 where 0.5 is the middle of the vase. Summary Another attempt at creating a model for the Customizer. Note: I had trouble getting this to work in Thingiverse because I am using the nightly build of OpenSCAD which has features not available in the old version used on thingiverse. Hopefully my changes will allow it to work properly. I am just learning how to use OpenSCAD and thought that the vase shape would be a good second project. My first was a parameterized tray container which was relatively easy because all parts were simple straight lines. The vase added addition complexity because of the curves. This is a customizable model with about 10 levels that you can use to define the vase shape (or other container.) In OpenSCAD the sliders give you an idea of the side profile of the vase, as each one defines the radius at the particular level. You can also specify the softness of each curved surface but that part is not very good as curves are a little complicated to arrive at. The handle size for each bezier curve is the same for all nodes in this version. As an additional option I added the ability to include twisted flutes into the design. The STL model produced is a solid so to make it into an open vase you slice it using Spirialize or Vase mode to create your gcode for printing.
