Overview
I really liked Turtle Dudes remix. Screwing the two halves together rather than relying on the twist lock of the original Polymaker spool just feels much stronger.
I did not need a glue in plate to identify material. I am using a filament tracking site called 3D Spool Tracker that relies on QR codes for tracking. So I remixed Turtle Dudes spool with a different cutout pattern that I think better fits the style I was looking for.
While at it, I decided to add in a way to capture the ends of the filament that does not require looping through holes. I left the holes as well, if that works better. I also added another hole in the spool core that can capture the starting end when using this to re-spool. I know there was one already in the model, but it was a little too small and without access to the original model, my FreeCAD skills are too limited at this point to fix the existing one, so I just made another.
I printed mine with 10% Gyroid infill and they came out nice and stiff. I tried 5% but the walls were too flexible.
Each side took about 85g and a little over three hours to print.
This is the 3mm heat-set insert version only. I used M3x20 socket cap screws.

Model has been updated for newest rolls that are 80mm in diameter and have a notch cutout. I recommend printing a layer height no more than 50% of your nozzle size(ex. no more than .20mm layer height for .40mm nozzle).

I'm a big fan of refill filaments, but AzureFilm's masterspool doesn't have a strong connection between the 2 parts. It risks detaching and you are left with the filament scattered.

That's no moon! Just print the 2 parts and glue it together. Print at 0.1 or 0.2mm, with an infill of 50% min, it's better if the ball is heavy. The ring must be printed very slowly to be strong.
