Datsun Roadster Shift Knob

Datsun Roadster Shift Knob, modeled off the OEM part. I am still trying to figure out a good way to recreate the metal base piece, but this is where I am so far. Will update when/ if I figure something out.

The hole for the shift lever is undersized to self tap when installing (if using the self tapping version) just apply a decent bit of downward pressure as you start to install the knob, and you should feel it grab, at that point just keep a consistent pressure as you twist, and after the knob hits the part of the lever that gets wider, use your judgment, but for me, after giving it another 1/4-1/2 turn it has stayed tight.

I uploaded a second model (Datsun Roadster Shift Knob Drill&Tap) that has a pilot hole for the shift lever, so you can drill and tap this to the correct thread for your application, or if you just want actual threads instead of self tapping. Later Roadsters are M8x1.25 and early ones are 5/16-18. if you want to do this just make sure to use enough walls so that your print is solid beyond the diameter you need to drill and tap.

The print pictured was printed in ASA with 4 walls and 50 percent infill, and feels pretty solid, but printing solid would probably be best. Printing vertically with no supports worked fine. I would highly recommend using variable layer height. I also acetone smoothed, then sanded and polished to get the finish pictured, but it is bare plastic.
