Hybrid Mesh
Solid Mesh
In addition to the mesh and solid mesh option (as for the TurtleFence there is an additional hybrid mesh one:
It's mostly a true mesh
⦠but with solid hexagons on the very left and right side where the spacers are located on the inside. It will create a bit of a cleaner look in case you want to go the mesh-way.
Front Skirt
I don't like to screw directly into plastic and as there is enough space for the standard heat set inserts I just made this little change. And having four solid mounting points might come in handy later for cable management for the Lane Control wires.
Mono or Multi-Part Variant
The skirt and mesh inserts are available as mono and multi-part variant. And if you need to go with the multi-part variant, don't worry: The mesh inserts are cut at different positions than the skirts, so the cut will not go through the mesh and it will not be visible after assembly.
Lane Control Options
Standard
Pre-Cut
Lane Control Ready
To be prepared for Lane Controls there are some variants of the front skirt inserts:
Standard: If you do not want Lane Controls
Lane Control Pre-Cut: Can be used as standard (without Lane Controls) but also allow you to easily make the cuts to add Lane Controls at any time later.
Lane Control Ready: With cut-outs where the Lane Controls will sit
Note: The standard Lane Control buttons do not fit the front skirt of the enclosure as the top row hexagons have a slightly different shape. But I adopted the buttons already.
Also, as the front skirt is moved a bit to the front it opens up some space on the inside and allows for a nice cable cover and zip-tie mount to give the buttons the premium touch that they truly deserve.
I will publish the model in the next days, but if you need it right now, drop me a message.
Spacers
The mesh inserts add 1.2mm to the skirt on the inside and require a little adjustments to the left and right spacers. Make sure you print the spacers from this model and do not use the original ones!
Optional: Skirt Mount Spacer
Depending on the filament type you will experience part shrinkage and the front skirt part will not precisely fit between the aluminum extrusion profiles, resulting in a gap between the triangular shaped skirt mount and the extrusion.
There is a simple āSkirt Mount Spacerā (red in the drawing) to fill the gap: Scale this part in the slicer to get the correct thickness for your needs!
And you might need to use slightly longer bolts.
Printing: Nothing special, just print it like all the other parts for your BoxTurtle.
Multi-Part Skirts: I wanted the multi-part skirt to not have any gap after assembly. So I designed the inserts to connect two skirt parts without any spacing between the skirt parts. On the downside, you might need to sand it down just a tiny bit on the small interfaces between the two skirts parts to account for elephant foot, over-extrusion, ā¦.. but should be done in a second (and the interface won't be visible after assembly).
Assembly: The mesh inserts will clip into the skirt and the friction fit should keep them securely in place. Optionally you can apply a bit of super glue and they will bond to the skirt forever. And don't forget to insert the 6 (4 for the mono variant) additional heat set inserts (4 at to top and 2 at the bottom for the skirt clip (multi-part only))
BOM: 4 or 6 heat M3 Voron spec heat set inserts
